Called Subashree Rajagopal on February 12, 2004 Tel: 001-609-426-0117 1) Is Vishwamandal Sevashram, Dhule (VSD) a registered organization? Does it have a board of Trustees? Does it have FCRA clearance? Registered : yes FCRA clearance: yes 2) What are the current sources of funding for VSD, how much and for what purposes? What is the annual revenue of VSD? Ask Father Godfrey 3) Is there any attempt at systematic inculcation of Christian values and beliefs in the tribals? Both Father Godfrey and his brother are against 'insentivised conversions' and they have fought with the church over this issue. The church therefore does not support his developmental activities. It is known that the church in the area has conversion as part of its overall agenda. 4) Where is Anand Sadan located vis-a-vis VSD (Shirpur)? 5) It seems that the requested funding is for on-going activities. If so, will the funds only allow for a easier, more efficient implementation of the current work or will it also raise the quantum of intervention? Father Godfrey has lots of activities going on. He also runs a medical clinic etc. He is doing his work with whatever money or donations he can obtain. However, this question has to be answered by Father Godfrey himself. 6) Will any attempt be made to make the Government teachers do their job? Attempts such as writing letters to newspapers, government offices etc. No attempts have been made to do this. The starting of teaching activity by Father Godfrey makes the government teachers feel embarassed and they start working better. 7) What is the total area of coverage of the project? 25 sites how far apart? Don't know exactly. One can only visit 2 villages a day. Budget related questions ------------------------ 1) Annual teacher's exposure trip: Can any examples of previously conducted tours be given? Locations etc.? 2) Why have the 6 workshops on agricultural development been included in the proposal as otherwise the proposal is about primary education? The tribals cultivate Bajra mostly. And Father Godfrey's intervention has been good in this area. He supplies neem based pesticides etc. This will be very useful to the tribals. 3) Are the 6 workshops planned at 6 different locations such that the attendees will be different? Who will be the resource person? Yes, 6 different locations. 3) The teacher's salary is very low (Rs. 525/month). Will it be enough to motivate them? 4) Funding for office supplies: How does VSD manage its requirements currently? Ask Father Godfrey! 5) What happens after 3 years? (Asha Mumbai members did not impress her positively)
