Recall from Previous Status Report

  1. The work of writing the ECTAL-2 cd was to be completed in January 2004.
  2. A scanner and a digital camera have been purchased for Asha for the project
  3. Direct feed back was to be collected from the user schools has been extremely motivating to ECTAL lesson makers.

Activities in January – Feb ruary 2004

  1. A presentation was made on ECTAL with a demonstration of some of the lessons in the ECTAL at the Learning network Conference in Chennai on 19th February 2004. The presentation was well received. The Chennai Corporation Education Dept. Zone VI supervisor and head of a corporation school evinced keen interest. So did the joint secretary of the Avvai Home School in South Chennai.
  2. Feed back from the user school at Muthunayakanpatti, Salem was that it was useful. He wanted the audio effect and permission to add on. Permission was granted. It was also requested that he send us a copy of the modified version.
  3. Completed writing ECTAL- 2. ECTAL-2 has the 25 lessons from ECTAL-1 and 23 lessons added newly. As planned more lessons at Class9 were added. Two lessons in English and one lesson in Geography with audio effects have been added. However only the lessons where it was felt audio would enhance learning have been given the effect right now. After specific feed back is received from the user schools it will be decided whether to provide audio to all the lessons or not.
  4. Heads and teachers of schools from Zone VI have personally attended TAL class in action. They have asked, received and acknowledged receiving 8cds of ECTAL-2 for the 8 middle schools in the zone that have computer facility.
  5. The scanner has been used well in the making of the ECTAL-2 lessons.
  6. A donor gave the project Rs1500 on her child’s birthday. She has been sent a note on the lessons made with this support and a copy of ECTAl-2 has been dispatched to her local address.
  7. A note in the website has been added to the “can I help” of www.ashanet.org/chennai on how small donations for the project can help- sponsor a lesson in English and Tamil for $15


Planned Activities in March 2004

  1. Send Cds to the schools in other 9 zones of Chennai Corporation when requested for.
  2. Two students from IIT Chennai have joined the ECTAL team. They will help with creating content in science and Maths
  3. Continue to ask for feedback from more user schools.
  4. Complete ECTAL-3 by end March-2004
