REWARD has sent us the proposal for 2013-14. To give some background about this project, we started funding them last year. Last year, they initially requested us to pay the salaries of 8 teachers (for April 2012 - March 2013 period) teaching in 3 schools in Koovathur, Tamil Nadu. Total requested funding amount was Rs 51,200 x 13 = INR 6,65,600. We sent them Rs 3,37,884 ($6163) in November 2012 for the first installment. During the academic year, couple of teachers left. Hence, for the second installment, instead of the initially earmarked amount of (332800= 665600/2), the requested amount came down to 114516. They asked us if we could pay the salaries for 3 additional months (April, May, June 2013) for amount = 94,200. We took a vote during the meeting and we approved to send them INR 114516 + 94200.

For 2013-2014, REWARD has asked us to support salaries of teachers in 3 villages - Koovathur, Nerumbur, Neelamangalam. The total requested funding amount comes out to be ~ INR 13 Lacs.

Here are the details:
3 teachers in Higher Secondary school @ pay scales of Rs 9500 
3 teachers in High school @ pay scales of Rs 8500
3 teachers in Middle school @ pay scales of Rs 7500
3 teachers in Primary school @ Rs 6500 respectively 
+ 1 month equivalent incentives . 
This works out to be about Rs 12,35,000/- on honorariums & incentives. They are planning to use the remaining amount for expenses on resource persons, stationery & postage, auditor and if available for giving enhanced pay for the better teachers.
