Project Dream

Improvements Needamangalam Taluk Villages

Primary Education --- Asha Chenani—2013-2014

15th   June , 2013

Background:

Asha Chennai involved late 2002 in this project, most of our volunteers Mrs Lakshmi Suryanarayanan, Mr Ananth, Mr Rajaraman, Mr.Sundaram, Mr.Viswanathan, Mr.Vaidyanathan (Asha Singapore) Mrs. Kasthuri  have visited the project. This project mainly supports remote villages in Needamangalam Taluk of Thiruvarur Dist. like Arichapuram, Karichangudi Poovanur, Villakudi. All these schools started getting support from us in 2005 and in 2006. Asha Chennai’s work with primarySchools, middle schools and balwadis in this villages. And has received the attention of several other near by schools. Most of the schools are equally need our support.

Vilakudi:

In Vilakudi there is one primary school, one  high school and two balwadis. These schools are in reasonably good shape. The high school consistently  gets close to 95% result. We have provided lot of sports materials, study materials and note books. The primary school got best school award in Thiruvarur District in 2009. The H.M. ( Mrs Rajakumari ) got the National award.  We have provided  lot of sports goods, books, note books and four Computers also. For balwadi we have provided floor mats, books. Currently we support only Balwadi

Arichapuram:

At Arichapuram there is one Middle  School(160 students) and Balwadis (25-30 children) both are in good shape . The school had three government teachers and three asha teachers and we have provided all support for this school and now this year it is a Middle School and a grant of 3 class room and a Kitchen from S.S.A. for about Rs. 9.5.Lakhs. From P.T.A they have purchased additional land for school and the construction is  over. This year 8th Std is added  in 2011-12. we have provided 2 teachers  Because of our teachers the standard of education is good now. The Government has provided few computers and a T.V. Asha also provided computers and tables.  For the balwadi we provided study materials, floor mats. H.M. expect support  this year also.

Poovanur:

At Poovanur  this year being a High school the new H.M. is posted and with about 400 Children. And H.M. is also not interested in Asha support. So this year We are dropping this School.

PUP School- Kannur.

This School is in Needamangalm Block and about 10 Km from Mannarkudi. It  is a small Village and financially backward area. The children of this school do not have neat Uniform. The School is in bad shape with a small play Ground. With 60 Children it has only rwo Government Teachers ( One H.M ). So expect one teacher from us. But we have not provided. We have supplied study materials.

PUM School – Thankaravayal.

This School is also in Needamangalm Block and about 15 Km from Mannarkudi. It is a middle School with 185 Children. The school is in good shape with good play ground. But financially Poor Village and no job opportunity and not able wear neat Uniform. 5 government Teachers are posted.  Aaha posted one teacher for this school.  We have supplied sports goods and study materials. This school is also expecting support from us.

Project Goals:

The project would impact the following RURAL Childre

·        About 100 children in the three Balwadis.

·        (one in Vilakudi, one in Arichapuram and one in Kannur)

·        150 Children at Arichapuram  Middle  School.

·        60 Children at Kannur Primary School.

·        185 Children at Thankaravayal.

In  these   institutions the boy:girl ratio is 1:1.

Asha Chennai provides several materials for their education, including uniform, note books, crayons, geometry boxes and the training for our teacher.

We hope to see the following qualitative improvements due to this project.

1.      An acceptable educational environment that is conducive to and promotes learning.

2.      A motivated and trained group of teachers that cater these children.

3.      Children who perform at or above the expected for their age.

As the project progresses we hope to develop better metrics to measure the progress of the children and the success of the project like monitoring levels and literacy skills of the children
