CHOICES AND RESULTS 10 Votes July 22, 2013 Yes 100% (10) No 0% (0 http://www.ashanet.org/projects-new/documents/42/Meeting%20minutes%20July17%202013.pdf MEETING MINUTES- 7/17/13 CDDP ANNUAL UPDATE AND BUDGET 2013-14 * The project is a school in the remote village of Thiruvallur Dist.- 7 schools * the parents are from a remote tribal school, rat catchers by profession * There are 4 schools which are SAC schools and 3 others we support as regular schools * the good part about the school is that it is in the remote areas so it in the village * Mr. Sethunarayanan have weekly meetings every Saturday-all 7 school teachers connect and discuss the academics, activities, other activities like arts, music, etc. * The one issue is that the teachers have to come from long distance and they have tried to get donations from locals to pay for vehicles, etc. * All the kids in the program did not have access to Govt. schools when CDDP began and now the projects are able to provide after school and help for the kids to study better * the children also come from very poor homes so if they do not have a place to go to after school to help with homework, education, etc. * the project gives them the safety net, help with studies, we also support meals, uniforms and books * total kids 162 kids- 82 boys and 80 girls * no drop outs, 24 high school kids all passed and all are now going into higher studies * The children have done better than the kids who are not going to CDDP schools * CDDP works to arrange the scholarships from the givernemtn for the kids * the statistics from the high school and 12th standard exams show that the kids in the school who are Asha CDDP school kids have all done well in their exams keeping in mind that the average pass percentage is about 38% * Last year we sent Rs. 797897.00- we took a while to send the money last year and the first installment was sent by Asha Chennai because they owed us money * next installment went in March 2013 * The budget request for 2013-14- Rs. 670628 for the 7 schools and it is about 18% lower than last year * we asked them last year about what their exit strategy was and they decided that they wanted to try and phase out from us in 3-5 years * Phase 1 schools budget has teacher salaries, food, uniform and utilities and stationary (2 schools) * Phase 2 schools are also 2- same items are covered in the budget  * Phase 3 schools are the non SAC school-same items * we cover one annual day for all the schools, then there is an annual trip for the children, we also support some non teaching staff with a small stipend, we cover some admin costs * Going forward this year's budget does not include a request for the kids who have graduated  * they did get an additional pot of money from an Asha alum who is giving money * we will continue to evaluate what is going on with their funding situation. we might end up only giving money for the SAC kids * Japan Embassy in Chennai is giving funds to NGOs and CDDP is trying to apply * the project partner is trying best to help as much as possible to look for other initiatives * it does appear that they have been able to get help from others to help with buildings, etc. * look for the polls
